The Criminal Court rejected bail applications today by the former wife and daughter of Dr. Boon Vanasin, founder and former chairman of Thonburi Healthcare Group (THG).
In denying bail, the court reasoned that, even though the two suspects, 79-year-old Charuwan and 51-year-old Nalin, claim that their signatures on several documents were falsified and that they knew nothing about fraud relating to five non-existent investment projects, there is concern that they might escape or interfere with evidence or witnesses if released.
The court also reasoned that the police and numerous investors in the projects had objected to the granting of bail.
Boon, his former wife, his daughter and five other associates have been charged with defrauding the public and money laundering for allegedly tricking hundreds of investors into investing in the five non-existent medical service projects in Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.
Total investment is estimated at about 7.5 billion baht. Boon reportedly fled to China on September 29th. Thai Interpol is seeking the issuance of a Red Notice for the fugitive.
