Two police major generals have been abruptly transferred to inactive posts at Operations Centre of the Royal Thai Police (RTP) for their alleged connections with casinos and “grey” businesses in Myanmar, according to an order signed by the police commissionermgeneral, Pol Gen Kitrat Phanphet.
The officers facing the axe are Pol Maj-Gen Aekkarat Intasueb, a commander attached to the Inspection Division, and Pol Maj-Gen Samrith Emkamol, commander of Tak provincial police.
The two officers have been stripped of their posts and are now assuming ‘inactive’ roles at the Operations Centre of the RTP, dubbed the grave yard for officers facing fact-finding or disciplinary probes.
Pol Maj-Gen Rawipat Amornmuneepong, deputy commissioner of 6th Region Provincial Police Bureau, will serve as acting commander of Tak provincial police.
The order states that a fact-finding committee has been set up to verify reports on social media, accusing an unnamed police major-general of involvement in casino and “grey” businesses in Myanmar. Initial findings indicate that the accusations are grounded in fact.
To facilitate further investigation, and to protect the image of the RTP, the order states that it is necessary for the officer in question, Pol Maj Aekkarat, to be transferred to the Operations Centre.
Regarding Pol Maj-Gen Samrith, the order states that the RTP has received numerous reports of people being trafficked into Myanmar through Mae Sot and Mae Ramat districts in Tak province.
Initial findings are that the reports can be sufficiently substantiated for the transfer of Samrith out of Tak province, to facilitate further investigation.
