COVID-19 infections on the rise among people not fully vaccinated

COVID-19 infections in Thailand appear to be on the rise again, especially among those who are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated, while daily infection and death rates averaged 394 and 5 respectively from October 30th to November 5th.

According to the COVID-19 Information Centre of the Public Relations Department, there were 2,759 cases hospitalized and 40 deaths between October 30th and November 5th.

Since January 1st, there have been 2,471,772 infections which required treatment in hospitals and 11,297 fatalities.

Meanwhile, Dr. Manoon Leechawengwongs, an expert in respiratory diseases at Vichaiyut Hospital, said yesterday (Monday) that they have been monitoring respiratory diseases resulting from COVID-19, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and human metapneumovirus (hMPV) and found that COVID-19 infections, identified using rapid antigen and RT-PCR tests, appeared to be on the rise in October.

There were 82 cases of influenza and 98 cases of RSV, representing a slight decrease, 6 cases of hMPV, 40 cases of dengue fever, 11 cases of Noro virus and 5 cases of Rota virus infection.

He noted, however, that there were more cases of Omicron infection than influenza or RSV, especially among the non-vaccinated and those who are not fully vaccinated, adding that several of the cases developed lung infections, even though they had been treated with anti-viral Molnupiravir medication and were in intensive care units.
