Court acquits Thai Pakdee party leader of defaming Move Forward party

The Criminal Court ordered the acquittal of Dr. Warong Dechgitvigrom, leader of the Thai Pakdee party, on a defamation charge, filed against him by the Move Forward party, demanding 24 million baht in compensation.

The court found Dr. Warong not guilty, noting that the defendant had merely expressed his opinion in good faith.

In the lawsuit, the Move Forward party accused Dr. Warong, while speaking during Facebook live broadcasts between January 20th and February 3rd, 2021, of implying that the party, in collaboration with other parties and activist groups, had offended the monarchy with the intention of overthrowing it.

The party also claimed that Dr. Warong had accused Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, leader of the Progressive Movement, of being behind attempts to abrogate the lèse majesté law and the alleged attempt to overthrow the monarchy.
