Convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will be handed over to officials from the Corrections Department when he is discharged from the Police General Hospital, tentatively this Sunday, said Pol Col Sirikul Srisa-nga, spokesperson for the hospital.

She said that the hospital is yet to be notified by the Corrections Department about the exact timing of Thaksin’s discharge, adding that other people, even Thaksin’s family members, are not allowed to receive the convict.

Meanwhile, Pheu Thai party leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra said today that all family members will welcome convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to the family’s “Chan Song La” home after his release on parole.

A representative of the hospital told a group of people opposing Thaksin’s parole that his health swings between good and bad, so visits to the ex-premier are not allowed.

The leader of the group, Phichit Chaimongkhon, says that he wonders whether Thaksin will be able to walk unaided when he is discharged from the hospital.

He also said that the group will continue to keep vigil at Chamaimaruchet Bridge, until Thaksin is discharged.

Due to his old age, over 70, and his poor health, Thaksin will not be required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet during his parole.
