Bangkok is cloaked in PM2.5 airborne pollution today, exceeding the safety level in all 50 districts.
Five places are in the pollution “Red” category and the rest Orange. Average PM2.5 is 62.5µg/m³, according to the Air Quality Information Centre of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
The 12 worst affected districts are:
1. Nong Khaem, 86.2µg/m³
2. Bang Khun Thian, 80.2µg/m³
3. Phasi Charoen, 80µg/m³
4. Thawi Wattana, 76.3µg/m³
5. Bang Bon, 75.8µg/m³
6. Chom Thong, 73.6µg/m³
7. Thon Buri, 72.7µg/m³
8. Bang Na, 72.4µg/m³
9. Taling Chan, 71.7µg/m³
10. Kanna Yao, 70.9µg/m³
11. Bangkok Noi, 70.6µg/m³
12. Bangkok Yai 69.6µg/m³
PM2.5 levels ranging from 54.5-65.9µg/m³ were measured this morning in northern Bangkok, with 51.9-70.9µg/m³ in eastern Bangkok, 50.1-66.5 µg/m³in central Bangkok, 51.6-72.4µg/m³ in southern Bangkok, 60.1-76.3 g/m³ in northern Thon Buri and 62.8-86.2µg/m³ in southern Thon Buri.
Those living or working in the five Red districts are advised to suspend all out-door activities. If it is essential for them to spend time outside, they should wear face masks. Anyone with an underlying disease is advised to stay indoors and have appropriate medication and equipment to hand in case they should feel unwell.
Eye irritation, coughing and difficulty in breathing are common symptoms associated with over-exposure to PM2.5 air pollution, according to the centre.
