Paetongtarn, the youngest daughter of Thaksin  Shinawatra, was elected new leader of the Pheu Thai party today (Friday).

Replacing Cholnan Srikaew, who resigned, Paetongtarn, 37, was chosen during a meeting of executives and core members of the party at the party’s headquarters. As Thaksin’s daughter, her victory surprised no one. Her father founded the party.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is expected to attend the meeting this afternoon.

The meeting also selected Sa Kaew MP Sorawong Thienthong as new secretary general and former TV actor, Danuporn Punnakan, as spokesman.
