Serial Killer Somkid Poompuang was apprehended by police this morning (Wednesday) on a train at a railway station in Pak Chong district of Thailand’s north-eastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima.

Tagged by the media as “Thailand’s Jack the Ripper”, Somkid is wanted by police as the prime suspect in the murder of a hotel maid in Kranuan district of the north-eastern province of Khon Kaen on December 15th.

It was reported that Somkid boarded the train in Surin, bound for Bangkok via Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Somkid has been freed from prison, in the middle of this year, after serving just 14 years for five murders, among other crimes, due to “his good behaviour”. The Corrections Department chief has publically admitted his release was due to an error in the screening process of prisoners eligible for early release.

Most of the murder victims were masseuses or women working in night time entertainment.
