A joint sitting of the Thai parliament will convene on July 13 to vote for the next prime minister, House speaker-elect Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said today (Wednesday).

Wan Muhamad was speaking one day after he was elected, uncontested, as the House speaker. He chaired a meeting today with parliament’s secretary general, in preparation for him and his deputies to receive the Royal command confirming their positions, which could happen in the next few days.

When he officially becomes the Speaker of the House, he will call the first meeting of the House of Representatives on July 12th, to discuss technical issues, he said.

“On July 13, there will be a joint sitting of the House and the Senate to select the premier. The meeting will start at 9.30am. I have already discussed the issue with Speaker of the Senate, Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, who agreed to the date,” Wan Muhamad said.
