Body of a jet-ski rider recovered from the Srinagarind reservoir

Divers have successfully retrieved the remains of an 18-year-old Thai man, who accidently fell from the pillion of a jet-ski into the lake at the Srinagarind Dam in Kanchanaburi province on October 24th.

With the help of an underwater drone, attempts, which began at 9am yesterday (Sunday), to recover the body from the bottom of the lake, which is about 70-metres below the surface, initially failed.

A rescue diving team then tried again and managed to bringthe body to the surface at 5pm.

The body was briefly examined by a doctor and police from Si Sawat district, then placed in a body bag to be sent for autopsy at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, at the Police General Hospital, before being returned to his family.

Thailand’s famous forensic pathologist, Khunying Porntip Rojanasunan, has offered an explanation as to why the victim’s body had not completely decomposed, after being under water for almost a month, saying that the oxygen level at the bottom of the lake is lower than that out of the waterand, therefore, the decomposition process is slower.
