With one week to go before the Bangkok gubernatorial election on June 28, former Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt continues to lead all other candidates by a wide margin, according to NIDA’s latest opinion poll.
The National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) conducted telephone interviews with 2,000 Bangkok residents between June 15 and 17, asking whom they favour as the next governor and city councillors.
The poll found that Chadchart, an independent candidate, was the preferred choice of 72.35% of respondents.
He was followed by another independent candidate, Mallika Boonmeetrakool Mahasook, with 9.60%; Chaiwat Sathawornwichit of the People's Party with 8.80%; Anucha Burapachaisri of the Democrat Party with 3.10%; and independent candidate M.L. Kornkasiwat Kasemsri with 1.35%.
Meanwhile, 2.20% said they had not yet decided whom to vote for.
Another 2.10% said they would vote for other candidates, including Pol Lt-Gen Charnthep Selavej of the Economic Party and independent candidates Samai Lalert, Prayoon Krongyos, Komsan Phanchartkul and Somchai Charoenvorakiat.
On voting preferences for city councillors, the poll found that 32.85% would support independent candidates, while 27.80% favoured candidates from the People's Party and 12.30% preferred Democrat Party candidates. Another 8.60% remained undecided.
Meanwhile, 7.30% said they would vote for the hardest-working team, 6.85% for candidates affiliated with the "Pheu Thai Life" group, and 1.35% for the "Better Bank" team.
