Thailand’s Election Commission has issued an edict prohibiting the sale, distribution and catering of all types of alcoholic beverages during the upcoming Bangkok gubernatorial and Pattaya mayoral elections.
The ban will be in force across Bangkok and Pattaya from 6pm on Saturday, June 27 until 6pm on Sunday, June 28.
On conviction, violators face a prison term of up to six months, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both, under Section 123 of the Local Election Act.
The poll regulator has called on all sectors to comply strictly with the law while urging eligible voters to cast their ballots this Sunday, between 8am and 5pm at their designated polling stations.
