Bangkok’s famous Khao San Road, popular among backpacking tourists, will remain closed until tomorrow (Thursday) for its third day of disinfection and COVID-19 screening of staff working in its various businesses.

President of the Khao San Road Business Association Sa-nga Ruangwattanakul said yesterday that he asked operators of pubs, bars and restaurants in the area to close temporarily after it was reported that ten tourists, who visited pubs on Khao San Road on December 30th and 31st, were found to be infected with COVID-19.

He said that tight safety measures have been imposed in the area, but admitted that the recent infections were beyond their control, because all the customers were fully inoculated and some of the infected are asymptomatic cases.

Officials from Phra Nakhon district are scheduled to continue disinfecting the Khao San area today and health officials will provide free rapid antigen test COVID-19 tests tomorrow to all staff working on Khao San Road.

All officers at Chana Songkhram police station, which oversees the Khao San area, will also be tested on Friday.
