Bangkok furniture factory destroyed by fire on Saturday night

A fire broke out at a furniture factory in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Thian district late Saturday night, razing it to the ground.

Initial police reports say that the fire started at about 9pm, in Soi Thian Talay 22 in Tha Kham sub-district of Bang Khun Thian, creating a ball of flame as the fire spread quickly fuelled by flammable materials.

Several fire trucks rushed to the scene and it took the firemen about an hour later to bring the fire under control, before it could spread to a nearby building belonging to former entertainer Nakorn Silachai, where he keeps several of his jet skis.

Firemen said their fire trucks could not get into Soi Thian Talay 22 because it is too narrow and they had to use a nearby lane to get close to the factory.

While the fire destroyed the factory, no casualties were reported as no one was in the factory at the time.

Nakhon told the media that the wind was very strong, but it blew in the other direction, otherwise his building might have caught fire too. He said he let firemen open a gap in the wall of his building so they could get to the factory.

An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the fire.
