Almost the entire city of Bangkok is suffering under a blanket of atmospheric dust particles today (Saturday), with 70 locations recording excessive levels of PM2.5, which is especially dangerous for children, the elderly and those suffering from respiratory problems.

According to the Air and Noise Quality Management Division at the Environment department at City Hall, air quality acrossBangkok has fallen to a level which is affecting health and, in some areas, the amount of PM2.5 continues to increase.

Those who develop a coughs, breathing difficulties or eye irritation are advised to spend less time outdoors, while the elderly, children and anyone suffering breathing difficulties have been told to avoid outdoor activities and wear protective masks.

The PM2.5 safety threshold is 50 microns. These 17 areas were found to have PM2.5 particulate matter ranging from 91 to 320 microns:
