Bang Kapi market closed for 3 days to contain the spread of COVID-19

The Bang Kapi district office has ordered the closure of Bang Kapi fresh market for three days, starting Thursday, after 53 people working at and living around the market have been infected with COVID-19.

According to the Bang Kapi district chief, the first infection linked to the market was detected on May 5th and, subsequently, more cases have been found, including 37 on yesterday and today, raising the total to 53.

He blamed the spread of the disease on some of the infected not isolating themselves and continuing to pursue regular activities. He warned them that they may face a year in prison and/or a fine of 100,000 baht for defying the Communicable Disease Act and two-year jail term and/or a 40,000 baht fine for violating the Emergency Decree.

He added that the market will be closed for three days for disinfection and vendors, as well as their workers, have been told to report for COVID-19 screening.

The district chief said he is confident that the situation is now under control, as the market has been closed off, adding that he expects the infection rate to slow down.
