The Thai government flew more relief materials and manpower to Myanmar today, to help earthquake victims.
Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, who presided over their departure from Don Muang airport this morning, said that the relief mission is Thailand’s humanitarian obligation and a gesture of good and neighbourly relations with Myanmar.
He said that about 1,000 military personnel have already been sent to Myanmar to help in relief efforts.
55 personnel, including 18 doctors and a search and rescue team, flew to Myanmar today, to be followed by more flights on April 2nd and 5th.
Meanwhile, the Thai military announced that it has deployed more than 1,000 troops, heavy machinery and cranes to rescue and recovery operations in Bangkok and to support the city’s “music in the park” activities, at Rod Fai and Benjasiri public parks in Chatuchak district, which are aimed at offering moral support to those still suffering the after effects of Friday’s tremors.
