Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will travel to Russia this week to attend the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan, aimed at strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation between ASEAN and Russia.
Government spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said today that Anutin will leave Bangkok tomorrow afternoon, after chairing the weekly Cabinet meeting, to attend the special summit on June 17 and 18.
During the visit, Anutin will participate in leaders' meetings, hold discussions with representatives of the ASEAN-Russia business community and meet fellow ASEAN leaders.
He and other ASEAN leaders will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and leading business representatives to promote cooperation that can be expanded into trade, investment and broader economic partnerships.
According to the spokesperson, the prime minister has instructed all agencies participating in the international forum to ensure that their participation delivers tangible results for Thailand, including the opening of new markets, expanding exports to high-potential markets and enhancing cooperation in energy and food security.
Thailand will also use the summit to promote cooperation in science, technology and innovation, while strengthening links between businesses and people in ASEAN and Russia.
The government believes such cooperation will enhance Thailand's competitiveness and generate new economic opportunities.
The ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit is being held to mark the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations and is regarded as an important platform for Thailand to advance its economic diplomacy agenda, seek new opportunities and maximise benefits for the country.
