Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, is currently on his second working visit to Bangkok since assuming office in 2022.
He is scheduled to meet Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, to follow up on the Thai-Malaysian Annual Consultation (AC) held last year in Malaysia.
The spotlight will, however, be on the meeting between Anwar, who is chairing ASEAN this year, and Thaksin Shinawatra, the father of the Thai Prime Minister and chief of Anwar’s informal advisory team.
Anwar met Paetongtarn at the Government House at around 2pm, before proceeding to the Rosewood Bangkok Hotel to meet Thaksin.
Earlier reports indicated that Anwar and Thaksin would meet Myanmar’s junta leader, Min Aung Hlaing, during the visit.
Malaysia’s state-run Bernama news agency reported that Anwar and Paetongtarn will explore areas of further potential collaboration between the two neighbouring countries and discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest.
