Migrant workers from Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia can return home for the Songkran festival without needing to apply for re-entry permits and are, thus, exempt from re-entry fees from April 1 until May 15.
Karom Pholpornklang, deputy government spokesman, said that the privilege is extended to migrant workers with work permits, on the condition that they return to Thailand by May 15.
He said that the Thai government regards migrant workers from these three neighbouring countries as important for economic development and wants to ease their financial burden by allowing them to go home for Songkran without having to pay re-entry fees.
The official Songkran holidays in Thailand this year are from April 12 to 16 inclusive.
