Over 100 ethnic Karen civilians, who had sought temporary refuge on Thai soil in Tha Song Yang district of Tak province to escape fighting in Myanmar, returned to their homes, as the fighting has died down.
The Karen National Liberation Army, an armed wing of the Karen National Union, claimed that their troops had captured a Myanmar government army base, opposite Thai Song Yang district, after a fierce fight lasting a few days.
The base came under heavy drone attack from the KNLA forces. A Karen army officer said they didn’t expect the Myanmar base to fall so easily, adding that the rebel forces have captured numerous weapons and ammunition abandoned in the base.
KNLA forces claim to have captured more than 36 Myanmar government military bases along the border with Thailand and further inside Myanmar over the past three months.
