The Special Investigation Department is in consultation with the Office of Attorney-General about the issuance of arrest warrants for three leaders of the ethnic Karen Border Guard Force (BGF) on human trafficking charges, Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong said today.
The three being targeted are Col Saw Chit Thu, Lt-Col Sae Mote Thun and Maj Saw Tin Win, he said, adding that a few other foreigners may face arrest too.
Tawee said that the charges are unrelated to the scam call centres in Myawaddy township, controlled by the BGF, but concern a human trafficking case from several years ago.
Asked whether the Thai government will seek help from Myanmar with the arrests, the justice minister explained that human trafficking is a transnational crime and, as such, all governments must cooperate to stamp it out.
He noted that the arrests of the three warlords would not be difficult, if there is good cooperation between ASEAN countries.
