Thai Energy Minister Akanat Prompan met Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing in Naypyitaw on Tuesday to discuss expanding cooperation in the energy and natural gas sectors, according to The Irrawaddy online news outlet.
The meeting was part of Thailand’s efforts to strengthen energy ties with Myanmar, with discussions focusing on new memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and potential joint ventures.
Akanat also met his Myanmar counterpart, Ko Ko Lwin, to discuss energy cooperation, including trilateral projects involving Russia in Dawei, in the Tanintharyi Region, The Irrawaddy reported, citing Myanmar regime media.
The visit came days after Min Aung Hlaing and Vice President Nyo Saw toured Dawei to inspect development projects.
It also followed Min Aung Hlaing’s visit to Bangkok in August, when he called for greater investment in Myanmar.
Thailand remains a major investor in Myanmar, particularly in the energy, manufacturing and border trade sectors, the online said.
