Three people were killed by a speeding train, while three others escaped unhurt, in Muang district of the northern province of Lamphun on Monday night.
Muang district police said that, before the accident, the six men, were travelling together in a pickup truck, on their way to trap birds near the rail tracks in Ban U-mong, U-mong sub-district. They stopped near the tracks and then set out to lay traps in the surrounding area, before returning to their vehicle to wait.
While waiting near the tracks, they whiled away their time drinking. Three of them sat close to the track, while the rest sat a safe distance away.
Police said the six men were clearly unaware of the approaching train, the Bangkok-Chiang Mai express. The three men who were sitting closest to the tracks were hit, but the three others escaped unhurt.
