Deputy Interior Minister Sabeeda Thaised sustained minor head injuries when the steel backdrop of a stage collapsed as she was presiding over the opening of a traditional local ceremony in Loeng Nok Tha district of Yasothon province yesterday.
The incident did not, however, stop her from finishing her duties at the opening ceremony, after which she was taken to the district hospital for first-aid treatment and a CT scan, which found no internal injuries.
Yasothon MP Thanapat Srichana, who was also on the stage, was less fortunate. He was found to have suffered a fractured backbone and was admitted to Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani.
Another Ubon Ratchathani MP, Sutthichai Charoonnate, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a private hospital for treatment.
Police said that the stage backdrop collapsed due to strong winds.
