Thailand will enjoy economic prosperity and robust foreign trade, along with sufficient water for cultivation, good rice harvests and abundant food this year, according to the predictions made at the Royal Ploughing Ceremony this morning.
Their Majesties the King and Queen presided over the annual ritual, held between 8.09am and 9.09am at Sanam Luang. Agriculture Permanent Secretary Prayoon Insakul served as the “Lord of the Plough”.
In that role today, from the three lengths of folded cloth offered, he chose the “5-kueb” (about 12.5cm long), which was interpreted as meaning that there will be sufficient water, bountiful rice yields and abundant food this year.
Five items of food and drink offered to the royal oxen, including rice, maize, sesame, mung beans, liquor, water and grass.
The oxen chose water and grass, which was interpreted to mean that there will be sufficient water, abundant food and good rice crops.
The oxen also drank liquor, which means improved transportation, economic growth and exports.
