An earthquake, measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, occurred in Myanmar this morning and the tremors were felt in Thailand’s Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son provinces.
The Earthquake Surveillance Division of the Meteorological Department reports that the earthquake was detected at 9.24am at the depth of about 10km in Myanmar, about 271km to the north-west of the Muang district in Mae Hong Son province.
Many people living in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son felt slight vibrations from the quake. Residents of a condominium in Suthep sub-district of Chiang Mai reported the ceiling lamps swaying and their beds shaking.
No reports of property damage have been received so far.
