China’s ‘Xue Long 2’ polar research icebreaker has moored at Thailand’s Chuk Samet Pier in Sattahip, in celebration of Princess Sirindhorn's 70th birthday and the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations.
HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, accompanied by Chinese Ambassador to Thailand H.E. Han Zhiqiang and China’s Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Sun Shuxian, toured the ship on May 20.
Princess Sirindhorn commended China’s remarkable progress in polar science and noted the successful 12-year collaboration of the Sirindhorn Thailand-China Joint Antarctic Research Laboratory.
She also expressed her wish to strengthen Thai-Chinese cooperation in science and technology, as well as in human resource development.
The icebreaker arrived in Thailand on May 19 on her first visit to the country and will be open to the public until May 23.
