A 10-year-old Thai girl was rescued from Myanmar and brought safely back home to Mae Sot district in Tak province yesterday, after she went missing from home with her nannie last Friday.
The suspected abductor, who was also returned, is now being questioned by Thai police.
Mae Sot district police began an investigation after they received a complaint from the child’s mother, claiming that her daughter had gone missing, along with the nannie, from her home in Village 2 of the district.
They found the bicycle and scarf of the suspect, which had been abandoned near the Myanmar border in Ban Konekane, Mahawan sub-district, and thought that the child might have been abducted and smuggled into Myanmar.
The police then contacted the Border Guard Force and the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), which is allied with the Myanmar government, to help track the child and her nannie down. They found both of them safe and delivered them to Mae Sot police yesterday.
After being reunited with her child, her mother, identified only as ‘Kamporn’, said that she will never hire a nannie to take care of her daughter again.
Meanwhile, Mae Sot police say they will ask a doctor to assess the mental status of the suspect.
