One business in Chiang Mai badly affected by the severe flooding is a wedding shop in the Chang Klan area of Muang district.
The owner of the shop, “Phi Sit”, said he was not there when the water began to rise, adding “I didn’t move the dresses to the second floor in advance when I heard that the floodwater was coming because I did not believe it would be this deep,” he said.
In 2022, the water only reached the first step in front of the shop, he noted, adding that, even in 2011, when massive flooding hit the country, the water level was not this high.
All his rental wedding gowns, more than 200 on the first floor, were soiled by floodwater and mud. Sit said he has no choice but to throw them all away.
His wife, Chutamart, mentioned that the bespoke gowns, which are kept on the second floor, are safe though. She has not yet calculated the cost of the damage caused by the inundation.
Meanwhile, “Mart’, who lives on the shop’s second floor, said that the flood swamped the first floor around 2am on September 25. She said she was afraid to go down to the first floor, so she was unable to save the dresses.
