An animal welfare organisation has agreed to adopt the pit bull terrier which mauled a 67-year-old woman to death in the Sam Khok district of Pathum Thani province.
Peerabun Charoenwai, the chairman of Hope Thailand, met with the dog’s owner, Kietkanok Tanlae, and the dog, named "Poikai," at the owner's house yesterday.
Kietkanok wants someone else to take the dog after it killed his aunt, Daeng Thammatanta, explaining that he already has six Thai breed dogs under her care.
Peerabun told Kietkanok that his organisation will take care of the pit bull at its office in Nakhon Pathom province and plans to put it through a behaviour adjustment course.
It seems that the animal’s aggressive behaviour may be due to it not being neutered and its desire to be the leader of the pack.
The owner had previously taken the dog for castration, but the operation was postponed due to a blood infection. He believes that Poikai’s behaviour will change once it is neutered.
Being in an enclosure was not the cause of the dog’s aggressive behaviour; rather, it was found to be insufficiently strong, allowing the dog to jump out and attack the victims.
