Ang Thong gets creative with road safety campaign after doctor’s death on zebra crossing

The Ang Thong provincial administration held a creative road accident reduction campaign yesterday (Monday), to encourage motorists to respect pedestrians’ right of way on zebra crossings, with a Khon mask dance performance on the Po Phraya-Tha Rua Road in the Muang district.

Students from the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute staged a Khon mask dance performance, featuring an episode from the Ramayana epic, on a zebra crossing in front of the college.

The campaign, instructed to all provincial administrations, is set to be relaunched on the 21st of every month, following the high-profile death of ‘Doctor Kratai’, an eye doctor at Chulalongkorn University who was struck and killed on January 21 by a large motorcycle as she was crossing Bangkok’s Phaya Thai Road on a zebra crossing.

After that tragic incident, Ang Thong Governor Veerasak Vichitsaengsri said that the provincial administration is repainting all the zebra crossings in the municipal area, to make them more visible to motorists, and is installing signs to warn motorists as they approach them.
