A helicopter carrying a Princess Chulabhorn medical team crash-lands near Sirikit Dam
A helicopter, carrying a 6-member medical team of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn, crash-landed near the Sirikit Dam in Thailand’s northern province of Uttradit Thursday night.
Initial reports, from the Third Army Region, said that the two pilots were injured and have already been sent to a hospital in the province while others on board are safe.
The Royal Thai Navy’s chopper, Number 2308, was on its way back to the Sirikit Dam from Kamphaeng Phet province with ten people on board, including two pilots, two mechanics and six members of the Princess’s medical team, who were treating people during her visit to upcountry provinces.
The accident took place at 7.21pm. Reports from rescue workers indicate that the chopper crash-landed in a bamboo forest, before falling into a creek. The latest report says that water in the creek has risen and flooded the aircraft.
HRH Princess Chulabhorn is currently staying at a guest house near the Sirikit Dam while on a ten-day visit to the people of Uttradit and other provinces.
The guest house was built many years ago to accommodate HM Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, when she officially opened the dam
