7.1 million Thai national lottery tickets available online from Sunday

7.1 million digital lottery tickets for the August 1st draw will be available for purchase online through the “Pao Tang” application from tomorrow (Sunday), said Lawaron Saengsanit, chairman of the board of the Government Lottery Office (GLO) today (Saturday).

He said that the public can buy the tickets from 6am at 80 baht each, noting that the last lot of 5.1 million tickets, for the July 16th draw, sold out in just two days.

Due to the overwhelming public response to the sale of digital lottery tickets, he said that the lottery board has decided to increase the number of digital tickets by 1-2 million for each draw, instead of all in one go, so as not to hurt traditional lottery vendors and to give them time to adjust to online sales.

He dismissed, as a pure speculation, reports that some investors had bought up large quantities of digital tickets for resale, resulting in the tickets being sold out quickly.

He claimed that sale of digital lottery tickets for past fortnightly draws has been normal, with about 900,000 customers averaging 5-6 tickets per head and without any sign of mass purchasing by a small number of buyers.

Meanwhile, Lt-Col Noon Sansanakhom, the GLO director, advised buying digital tickets only from the GLO, noting that only the initial purchaser, who has their name registered, is entitled to claim the prize and that money will be wired directly into their bank accounts.
