43 cases of election law violations recorded on Election Day

The general election yesterday (Sunday) is being regarded as having gone smoothly, with only 43 election law violations being recorded, Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat, the national police chief, said today (Monday).

The violations include 25 cases of tearing ballot sheets, 8 of cases of alleged vote buying, of which 4 have proceeded to court, and the remaining cases involve the selling of liquor and the taking of pictures of marked ballot sheets in the polling stations.

He said, however, that police in Bangkok did receive many complaints about traffic congestion while polling stations were open.
