3,995 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, more clusters found in seven provinces

Thailand recorded 3,995 new COVID-19 cases and 42 more deaths today (Sunday), as 10,000 military police, health and city officials were deployed to 575 construction worker housing facilities in Bangkok.

According to the CCSA, the following new clusters have been found in seven provinces in the past 24 hours:

Samut Sakhon – a garment factory in Krathum Baen district(16 infections)

Nonthaburi – Pakkred district (13 infections)

Chon Buri – Pongsak market in Muang district (11infections)

Ayutthaya – an electronic devices plant in Bang Pa-in district (21 infections)

Lop Buri – a mechanical spare parts plant in Muang district (8 infections)

Suphan Buri – the Natural Resources Office in Muang district (6 infections)

Surat Thani – a police training centre in Muang district (21infections)

In Bangkok, a person, who is reported to be linked to the southern province of Narathiwat, was found to be infected with Beta (South African) variant, according to an informed public health source.

About 10,000 military police, health and city officials were deployed at 575 construction worker housing facilities in 50 districts of Bangkok today, to enforce the partial lockdown.

Maj-Gen Thirapong Patthamasingh na Ayudhya, deputy spokesman for the three armed forces, said that, since most of the military personnel have not yet been inoculated, the military will speed up procurement of vaccines for their men.

Cumulative infections since April 1st, 2021, have now reached 215,584 with a death toll of 1,818.

Cumulative infections and deaths since early last year are 244,447 and 1,912 respectively.

In Mae Sot district, in the western border province of Tak, a doctor, who calls himself Mor Mae Sot, said on Facebook today that it is shocking that recent pro-active screening of 840 people found 452 of them testing positive for COVID-19, with the results of 25 others inconclusive.

The doctor said that medics worked throughout the night to arrange accommodation at a field hospital for the infected patients, who will be separated and sent to different hospitals today, according to their condition.

In Nakhon Sawan province, the Chumsaeng district hospital, with the exception of the emergency department, has been closed until July 10th, after several personnel were infected,reportedly by a patient in the labour and delivery ward.
