334 die post COVID-19 inoculation, 278 confirmed not linked to vaccine

A total of 334 people have died after they were inoculated against COVID-19, but posthumous tests have confirmed 278 cases were not linked to the vaccines, while the remaining cases are still being examined, according to Dr. Chawetsan Namwat, emergency health hazards and diseases of Disease Control Department today (Friday).

He disclosed that, by August 12th, 22.5 million doses of vaccines have been administered. These include 10.7 million doses of Sinovac inactivated virus vaccine, 9.68 million doses of AstraZeneca viral vector vaccine, 1.7 million doses of Sinopharm inactivated virus vaccine and 286,704 doses of Pfizer mRNA vaccine.

17.2 million people have received their first vaccine jabs, while 4.8 million are fully inoculated and 414,066 people have received a third booster shot.

According to information, available as of August 10th regarding the side effects of vaccinations, of the 10 million doses of Sinovac administered, 2,258 people suffered side effects, accounting for 22 cases per 100,000 doses administered, with 22 cases of serious side effects, accounting for 0.2 per 100,000 doses.

As for AstraZeneca, there have been 2,606 cases of side effects, two serious, accounting for 0.02 per 100,000 cases. There have been 90 cases of serious side effects with the Sinopharm vaccine, accounting for 6.1 per 100,000 cases.

Dr. Chawetsan said an investigation is under way into the death of a nurse at a hospital in the northern province of Phichit, who died on August 11th, one day after she received a Pfizer booster jab.

As for the 1.5 million doses Pfizer vaccine, donated by the United States, 700,000 doses allocated for medical personnel had been sent throughout the country, including Bangkok, in two batches. 442,800 doses were sent over August 4th and 5th and 257,200 doses on August 8th.

328,880 doses were distributed to 13 provinces for people over 60, people with underlying diseases and pregnant women.

Dr. Chawetsan said that over 280,000 foreigners in Thailand, including 140,000 migrant workers from Myanmar, have been vaccinated, including 74,587 who are now fully inoculated.
