320 new COVID-19 cases found in Samut Sakhon on Sunday afternoon

Samut Sakhon province recorded another 320 new COVID-19 cases late Sunday afternoon, pushing total infections in the province, since December 17th, to 4,359.

According to the provincial health office, of the new cases, 269 were found through pro-active screening and all are Myanmar migrant workers. 51 cases were diagnosed in hospital, including eight Thais.

Pro-active screening in the community is about 50% complete. There are still about 900 people at high-risk, in the central shrimp market community and the Sri Muang dormitory, who are to be tested next week.

The provincial communicable disease committee will meet soon to discuss the possibility of reopening the shrimp market in February. This means health officials will have to work faster and intensify pro-active screening.
