About 30 COVID-19 patients, with mild symptoms, have been transferred from Bangkok to a field hospital in the coastal province of Samut Sakhon for treatment, as ordered by the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Ambulances from different hospitals made about 10 trips to take the patients to the field hospital which is, so far, accommodating about 600 patients from Bangkok and its neighboring provinces.

At the height of the second wave of the pandemic, in January and February, Samut Sakhon, which is home to several tens of thousands of Myanmar migrant workers, recorded more than 10,000 infections, most of them among the migrant workers.

The general hospitals were overwhelmed and several field hospitals were set up to accommodate the patients. The provincial administration also imposed a strict lockdown, preventing people in the province from leaving unless necessary and banning outsiders from entering.

The provincial administration has finally managed to contain the spread of the disease.
