21 Ratsadon members freed by police after acknowledging charges

The Khlong Luang district police station

The Khlong Luang district police, in Thailand’s Pathum Thani, have decided to drop plans to seek a court order to remand 22 anti-establishment Ratsadon members in custody, pending further investigation.

The political activists, including leading figures Parit “Penguin” Chinvarak, Panasaya Sitthijirawattanakul and Panupong Jardnok, alias Mike Rayong, were summoned to the Khlong Luang district police station today (Friday) to acknowledge charges in connection with a protest in front of the station, during which some of the protesters removed the national flag and raised a red flag in its place.

All but one of the accused showed up at the station today to acknowledge charges of illegal assembly, in violation of the Communicable Disease Act and the Emergency Decree.

Parit later told the media that it would not have been right for police to have them held on remand because they have never tried to escape any previous charges.
