13.4 million Thais will have received 5,000 baht cash subsidy by next week

A total of 28.8 million people have applied for the 3 months of 5,000 baht/month cash subsidies, under the “Rao Mai Thing Kan” (We Do Not Leave You Behind) scheme, but only 13.4 million have passed the qualification screening so far.

Of those eligible, Mr. Lawan Saengsanit, spokesman for the Finance Ministry, said that 11 million have had the subsidy wired into their bank accounts already, with the remaining 2.4 million to receive their first payment next week.

He said that these 2.4 million people can check the latest status by logging into www.เราไม่ทิ้งกัน.com, without having to wait for text messages to be sent to their cellphones.

Mr. Lawan identified two major causes of disqualifications. First, the mismatch of the bank account numbers stated in the application forms and the real bank account numbers. Second, incomplete online registration by applicant using smart phones, as many people abandoned registration in the middle of the procedure when they encountered a problem.

For the first problem, he suggested the applicants apply for Prompt Pay at their banks, which would facilitate money transfers, adding that there are about 1.7 million people in this group who would be taken care of.

Screening of this subsidy scheme will close on May 17th and there are still about 500,000 people who have not submitted additional information as required. They are being urged to hurry up, otherwise they will miss out, said Mr. Lawan.

For those people not eligible to receive the subsidy, he said that they will receive assistance from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.
