120 km/hr speed limit on Asia Highway effective April 1st – Thai PBS World Tonight [16th March 2021]

From April 1st, the Asia Highway (Highway 32) will be Thailand’s first road with the new upper speed limit of 120 km/hr. The 50 kilometer stretch of dual carriageway runs from the Bang Pa-in Highway to the Ang Thong Interchange.

Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob said today that, though there wasn’t a conclusion from the meeting on increasing the speed limit on 4-lane roads, he confirmed that the policy will take effect in April.

As for the next phase, there will be a total of 240 kilometers of rural roads which will have their speed limits increased to 90 km/hr, including Ratchapruek and Chaiyaphruek roads.

Saksayam also said that many roads have been proposed for adjusted speed limits, but there is no need for them all to commence on the same day. He said a few kilometers of some of the roads may be able to go ahead with the new limits.
