Officials from the Department of Special Investigation have discovered a cold storage company in Nakhon Pathom province has, in the past two years, transferred about 220 million baht to two suspects, a father and son, currently held in police custody on charges of the illegal importation of frozen pork.

Pol Maj Natthaphol Dissayatham, head of a DSI team tasked with investigating the illegal imports, said Thursday that there are no records of formal transactions relating to the money transferred between the company and the two suspects.

Armed with a search warrant, officials from the DSI and the Central Institute of Forensic Science at the Ministry of Justice searched two cold storage facilities belonging to the same company and the house of the company’s owner in Thung Noi sub-district, Mueang district of Nakhon Pathom.

The officials found seven tonnes of pork in one facility and an even larger amount in the other. The Livestock Development Department will be tasked with examining the meat.

People living in the neighbourhood of one of the facilities told the officials that they have been affected by a foul smell emanating from garbage dumped in front of the facility and a canal has been polluted by waste it has discharged.
